Now that I am turning 40 and I am a parent; that has changed. My pilgrimage to attain a higher education is to provide a stable life for my son, be a positive role model, and to aspire to find something in life; that can only be found by expanding my education. Having a stable career and not just a job is a very important step in my life. A stable career will enable me to provide a good home and be able to afford a college education for my son. The right stable career is able to point you toward financial freedom and it gives you an opportunity to be in demand in the job marketplace. There are many career choices where hardworking employees will always be in demand; healthcare workers, accountants, and morticians are examples of some of these. My immediate family is in the healthcare field. My mother and father are lab technicians, my sister is a certified nursing assistant, and my brother is an x-ray technician. It seems natural that I would eventually choose this career path.

BODY:      MISSION:      The 81mm mortar platoon is commonly called the battalion           commander’s hip pocket artillery. It is called this because 81’s are foot                mobile, are on target faster, and more accurate than artillery. The                     mission of the 81mm mortar platoon is to provide continuous indirect                fire support to the infantry battalion and it’s subordinate elements in the                offense and defense.           CHARACTERISTICS: The M252 81mm mortar is a smooth bore, muzzle loaded, high angle of fire weapon. Smooth bore meaning it has no lands and grooves like a rifle barrel. Muzzle loaded, because you insert a round into the muzzle of the cannon, allowing gravity to pull the round down, striking the firing pin. High angle of fire because it is capable of firing from within defilade, over hills, and other obstructions. COMPONENTS: The M252 81mm mortar consists of three main components, and a dovetail slot sight. They are: M253 Cannon (barrel): The M253 cannon consists of the barrel, sealed at the lower end with a removable breech plug that houses a removable firing pin. At the muzzle end is a cone-shaped Blast Attenuator Device (BAD) that is fitted to reduce noise.           M177 Mount (bipod): The M177 mount is composed of 3 main assemblies. They are: the leg assembly, the traversing gear assembly, and the barrel clamp assembly.

Leadership In Enders Game Essay
Ender represents the best picture of leadership. He is dedicated to learning, to doing well, is innovative, comprehends everything he sets his mind to, has strong self-awareness, has strong group dynamics-awareness, understands power dynamics, and is understanding and compassionate towards those he leads. He understands that he has to sometimes do things that he doesn’t want to, to have a point made or a mission accomplished. He knows how to evaluate talent and abilities and knows how to adapt his strategy around the tools and people he has been handed. The flexibility to adapt and his ability to out-think his opponents makes him trustworthy and most important, people want to follow Ender. They want to him to lead and they want to follow him. Ender knows that the best strategy for defeating the Buggers is for him to train every one of his guys to think like a commander, so that in the course of battle, each individual is fully capable of being decisive and making key choices to be responsible for their side. Ender had incredible awareness of every moment and how he quickly adapted to whatever came his way. He had the ability to asses each situation, weigh the pros and cons, and act only on what was necessary for his survival. He made sound and timely decisions and he also demonstrated that he was technically and tactfully proficient. He never acted on ego, vengeance, pride or greed. His motives were straight, even as he fought his own inner battles. A lesson learned was that Building Loyalty was important when having, being a part of or leading a group of individuals. For example, when Ender became a commander of a green Army, he doesn’t immediately order them around. He develops relationships and respect amongst his soldiers. He was insuring that he wasn’t a friend but more of a respected commander. Being able to Develop Flexibility and Teamwork Above All Else was also an important lesson. Despite the fact that Ender’s soldiers were overworked; the Dragon Army won every single situation that was thrown at them. Flexibility and independence helped the Dragon Army to succeed in face of impossible odds. Having particular friends was a lesson that took him far in some cases. Ender was an outcast but he managed to befriend Alai, Dink, Petra and Bean. They just happen to be the best of the best. These friendships don’t provide immediate benefits to Ender but these friends become invaluable during Command School. Buddy up with the best, you never know when you’ll work with them. There are many lessons to take away from this book but there is also guidance as to what not to do. It’s important to learn from your mistakes as well as learn from others mistakes. For example, don’t think you’re all that. Many children at the Battle School resent Ender because he was the best. If Ender was the best, that means that these kids aren’t the best. A blow to the ego when all you were thinking was that you were the best. The true leaders, such as Dink and Petra, put their own egos aside and gave Ender appropriate respect. Don’t judge based on appearance alone. Ender was small and young, Petra was a girl, and Bean was tiny and arrogant but all of them are exceptional. A true leader can see beyond the surface and see true potential. Don’t react emotionally. Doing so can burr a mission and make decisions selfish. Bonzo failed as a leader because he ran on his emotions. Bonzo made decisions based on emotions, not logic. That type of decision-making lead to his death. Ender functioned differently. He channeled his anger using logic. Good leaders can put their emotions aside when necessary. And lastly, don’t stop learning. There is always room for improvement no matter who you are. Ender continually matured as a leader, throughout the story. This book is in the commandants reading list because it uses military mindset along with the important traits that the marine corps wants us to have instilled in ourselves as marines. The obvious would be the leadership characteristics that are possessed by the main character. Another would be the whole scenario of the school itself. Ender left home to enter a different world. Every marine has been through this. It’s an adjustment that we all have gone through and we have all learned these same lessons along the way weather we are aware that we have or not.

Give a couple examples of powerful use of language Hedges uses description effectively and helps shows the reader what he saw, heard, taste, smelt and even touched during his own experience as a war correspondent in Latin America. One quote that stood out to me, he states â€Å" I have looked into the eyes of mothers keening over the lifeless and mutilated bodies of their children, and I have stood in warehouses with rows of corpses†¦Ã¢â‚¬ He clearly established that the war is more than its portrayed to be. It becomes more eye opening to know, that innocent woman and children are dying helplessly due to others greed, paranoia and selfish acts of defending. He effectively provokes emotions of shame, guilt and sadness because of the imagery he provides, as though the bodies of those dead do no matter, if they are not of our own. Another example comes from describing the physical appearance of a woman. He states â€Å"Her cheeks were hollow, her hair dry and brittle. Her teeth were decayed; some had broken into jagged bits.â € This is a great example of powerful language because it describes how the physical being of the people have deteriorated due to the lack of resources used for hygienic routines like, taking a shower, washing your hair and brushing your teeth. 2.How does he define friendship vs. comradeship? Othello and Desdemona vs. Romeo and Juliet Othello and Desdemona are similar and different from Romeo and Juliet in several ways, both as couples, and as individuals. The circumstances they face and the nature of their characters share similarities, and so do the choices they make, but the other characters in the respective plays, and the key differences in Othello and Romeos dispositions cause them to go down separate roads, even if the end stage is the same. Desdemona and Juliet are interesting, not because they are portrayed as intrinsically interesting, because they aren’t, but because of the way that they respond to the pressure created by the clash of family and love in their lives. Romeo and Juliet have a trusting relationship; they blame their marriage troubles on their feuding families and on outside factors, rath er than directing anger or blame at each other. Othello, on the other hand, is so insecure about his relationship with Desdemona that he allows himself to be convinced of her infidelity quite easily by Iago. He pounces on the opportunity to reinforce his fears and blame his insecurity on Desdemona, instead of trusting her the way Romeo trusts Juliet, and finally accuses her of sleeping with Cassio on line 72 of Act 4 Scene 2 (Shakespeare). The most obvious similarity between Othello and Desdemona, and Romeo in Juliet, is the tragic end both couples meet. Romeo and Juliet have a rather complicated series of misunderstandings that lead both of them to commit suicide. The melodramatic reasoning behind this self-murder is that neither Romeo nor Juliet can live without the other, and would rather join them in death. Othello makes the same decision when he realizes that Desdemona was, in fact not unfaithful. This is not as interesting as his reasoning behind killing her in the first place . When he first becomes convinced of Desdemona’s disloyalty, he decides to kill her, not only as revenge, but also to preserve his honor, and hers.
